WEST System Epoxies

WEST System Epoxy was developed in the late 1960's and early 1970's to work as both an adhesive and coating since then it has established itself as a industry leader in epoxy technology.  WEST epoxy bonds well to many substrates including wood, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and metals.  WEST Epoxy is also highly resistant to water penetration. WEST System Epoxy is available with 4 different hardeners; 209 Extra Slow Tropical Hardener, 207 Special Clear for clear finished wood parts, 206 Slow, and 205 fast hardener.

WEST stands for Wood Epoxy Saturation Technique.

Pro-Set Epoxy Resins is a division of Gougeon Brothers, makers of the well known and popular WEST sytem epoxy line.  Pro-Set is their industrial division that specializes in making application specific epoxy products to the highest standards.

Pro-Set Epoxies are available in a number of stock and specialty formulations including epoxies for infusion, high temperature applications, surfboards, tooling, surfacing, fire retardant, and toughened.  Custom formulations are also available.

Pro-set High Temperature epoxies are suitable for applications like mufflers, valve covers, or other engine bay components that are subjected to elevated temperatures.  They can also be suitable for high temperature tooling applications for molds that are going to be subject to high heat, like pre-preg molding applications.

Proset Infusion Epoxies feature good flow out, low viscosities, and great temperature resistant properties.  There are a number of hardener options available that include a high temperature version that has a Tg as high as 300F.

We are able to provide Pro-set Epoxies in sizes from gallon kits up to totes.

We have a few different epoxy systems that are suitable for casting shapes, encapsulating treasures, or casting tables.

We have had very good experiences casting with our CCT epoxy with slow hardener and with Resin Research 2050 with extra slow hardener.  For larger pours we recommend keeping the layer thickness to around 3/8" this can vary with the addition of objects such as rocks or other articles that will help absorb some of the heat produced during cure.  We recommend following up with the next layer of resin soon after the previous returns to room temperature. Both resin systems are low viscosity for excellent release of bubbles and penetration into the substrate.  They can be used in a bar top type application but their low viscosity means you will either need to dam around the edges to get a thicker coating or do multiple coats.

Entropy CCR with the slow hardener is also an excellent choice for casting deeper pours.

For bartop applications where you want a thick resin that will sit on top of the material being coated Mirror Coat is a good option for that.  Under typical room temperatures it will coat out to about .040" thick in one pass.
Mirror Coat products can be found here.
